Obama is still President
With overwhelming support from Blacks, Latinos, women, the youth and minorities; with his support for abortion and gays; with him being a brilliant campaigner and a masterful organizer; and in spite of Benjamin Netanyahu and the venom spitting Donald Trump - Barack Hussein Obama won the elections and is still president of the US. According to reports, most Muslims around the world would rather have Obama than Mitt Romney. We supported him before and, though he has been a disappointment in some ways, very hopefully, this time, during the next four years, Mr. Obama will fulfill his promise of four years ago for the realization of a Palestinian state.
When he first visited the Middle East four years ago, the American president promised change. Change did overwhelmingly come across the Middle East, not because of America, but despite of its support for the regimes that were swept away. But, more than any other people, it is Palestinians who need real change. They need a homeland. They need a state of their own where they can live independently and freely. The American president has many daunting problems to tackle, especially for his people; not only to assist his many citizens after the super storm; but also to solve the so called 'fiscal cliff', which, like all the many big economical problems that America has faced, will undoubtedly be avoided. For the Middle East, for Muslims around the world, Palestine is the priority and no bigger gift can the American leader give to us than in helping in having Palestinians have their own state with Jerusalem as their capital city.
The Middle East can never have real peace and security without having a Palestinian state that's independent and secure. America, due to many reasons, more than any other country in the world, can most help in realizing that Palestinian statehood. During his visit four years ago, Mr. Obama stated:........the Palestinian people – Muslims and Christians – have suffered in pursuit of a homeland. For more than sixty years they have endured the pain of dislocation. Many wait in refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza, and neighboring lands for a life of peace and security that they have never been able to lead. They endure the daily humiliations – large and small – that come with occupation. So let there be no doubt: the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable. America will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity, and a state of their own. Very hopefully, this time, in the next four years, Mr. Obama will help in fulfilling that Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity, and a state of their own.
