An Oscar For Planet Earth

An Oscar for “An Inconvenient Truth” is not only for Al Gore, but for all those who care for our Planet: "......people all over the world, we need to solve the climate crisis, it’s not a political issue, it’s a moral issue. We have everything we need to get started, with the possible exception of the will to act, that’s a renewable resource, let’s renew it.” Exactly.

Out there, there are still many sceptics who don't believe in Global Warming or Climate Change; for them, it's all a myth and a made up theory. They believe that, all the climatic changes that we are now experiencing are all natural and that Man and our actions have very little to do with these climatic changes. They believe that, historically our Planet has always undergone climatic changes. That is true, just as it is a fact that the dinosaurs became extinct through natural causes; but the climatic changes that Earth is now experiencing is not only natural, but Man made too; the facts are there and very clearly show that. For some, they refute these facts due to lack of knowledge on global warming; but there are those who know the facts, governments and Big Businesses in particular, but, through short sighted selfish motives, do not want to make or accept changes that can help in positively reversing the bad climatic changes that we are now going through.

I can feel it here in Hadhramout; in many parts of Yemen, many have lost lives and material through these adverse climatic changes; we have had heavier rains, more floods than normal, and more heat than normal. The last few months were some of the coldest and rainiest ever, here; and many elderly people, including Bedouins, are already predicting that this coming summer will be one of the hottest ever.

Thankfully, we are fast running out of fossil fuels - now, the main cause of global warming; in time, hopefully, Earth will be saved. Saved in a way. At the same time, we are most likely to witness more wars and blood as the scramble for the limited energy resources intensifies. Or Earth might not be saved at all, as many could revert to even more destructive fuels such as coal. Each of us, in however a small way - can contribute in making our World a cleaner, better place to live in. Take action!

Someone was just asking me about the connection between Global Warming and the small stockpile of oil in Yemen. The oil to some extent can help out the Yemeni economy, if properly managed to benefit the poor, but of course, every use of oil means a worse environment for the world. Sometimes it's hard to know what the best desiscion is.

Abdulhabib - the oil has made a tremendous positive impact in Yemen, very little as it is and as many as we are. For us living here, we can see and notice the difference.

Overall, I believe oil, like diamond and gold has been more of a curse for the places where they are found. In your own a country, the Appalachian region is a good example of how it can be; I believe that region is now one of the poorest in the Satates. Minus its vast natural resources that were.
