Picnik: another great addition to Google

Google has acquired another excellent utility: Picnik. Picnic is a service that provides users with both free and premium services to edit digital photos in a Web browser - without downloading any tool. Those who regularly use Yahoo's Flickr services may know of Picnik and may have used it and seen how good it is.

Its editing tools allows users to do many things with digital photos - online. As Picnik says on its Flash powered interface:
  • Fix your photos in just one click
  • Use advanced controls to fine-tune your results
  • Crop, resize, and rotate in real-time
  • Tons of special effects, from artsy to fun
  • Astoundingly fast, right in your browser
  • Awesome fonts and top-quality type tool
  • Basketfuls of shapes from hand-picked designers
  • Works on Mac, Windows, and Linux
  • No download required, nothing to install
There are other such online photo editing tools but I don't know of any as good, offering an array of services and as efficient as Picnik. For those who like iPhoto and Photoshop - both require users to download their editing software before using them - there is another good service: Photoscape; you need to download their editing software too, before using it.
