More fresh water discovered in Hadhramout

This is great news and a blessing.

A short distance from Al Mukalla, more underground fresh water has been discovered. Hadhramout is known for its abundant underground fresh water; fresh water, that's very scarce in most Middle Eastern countries.

The water discovery has just been reported on the humanitarian agency IRIN news website:

And then comes Collecta

It seems there is now a frenzy in launching 'new' search engines. A few weeks ago, Wolfram Alpha was launched, then came Bing. A few days ago there was CrowdEye; and now we have Collecta:

Congratulations Pakistan!

With all the troubles, problems and pains that Pakistanis go through almost every day, I can not help but celebrate and share the joy of Pakistan winning, after 17 years, the cricket World Cup. The Pakistani team did the unbelievable: after a long perilous march to the finals, against all odds, they won; won, by beating the once seemingly unbeatable - Sri Lanka - by eight wickets.

Incredibly and unashamedly, all the major news channels seem to be more interested in carnage, blood and pain. Always, they would give the suicide bombings and deaths in Pakistan - extensive headlines and coverage; they haven't done that with Pakistan's taking the trophy.

Still free of Swine Flu

Declared a pandemic by WHO, the H1N1 virus has spread rapidly, far and wide, with more than 70 countries so far reporting on cases of human infection with the virus, and as cases of the flu rise in the Middle East - so far, Yemen has been spared.

Binging

I have been trying out Bing; compared to Microsoft's previous Live Search, it's a much better improvement. What's best, unlike Live, it's different, fun to use and does not try to imitate Google. And it's fast and does give very good results; as good as Google.

The Redmond company is spending millions, using every means, advertising its new re-branded search engine around the world; but, no amount of money or time spent advertising, or 'manifestos' - can make the new search engine compete successfully against Yahoo and especially Google. Bing has to prove itself; it has to have quality and has to continuously deliver better.
