Tarim or Tareem was once the cultural, academic and theological center not only for Hadhramout, but the whole of the Arabian Peninsular. Tarim has lost most of its glory and splendor but it still is a center for Islamic scholars and education. On a recent visit, I took a few pictures of some its old neglected magnificent buildings; buildings that reflect the glorious past that the city had:

Al Arabiya vs Al Jazeera
To communicate and reach out to the Arab and Muslim world - it is no surprise that President Obama chose Al Arabiya News channel as the first Arab media to have an interview with, instead of Al Jazeera; his advisers must have told him that the former is gentle and lenient with its news on America, while Al Jazeera has been too critical of it - at one time nearly getting Mr. Bush to bomb their station down. Al Arabiya had to be the one to be rewarded with the exclusive interview.

At This Moment
I Barack Hussein Obama.... Those words - so surreal, so incredible - will continue to resonate in millions of people's minds, for a long time to come. One could have imagined a Black man becoming the president of the most powerful country in the world, but, for any one - before - to have imagined that any one with a name like that and with such a background, could take oath, using such a name and take over the most powerful office on this planet, that person would have been considered a big joke, or totally insane.
